The TurboCASH Community now spans 80 countries and 25 languages. We have thousands of consultants capable of supporting the 100 000 users. The 21st century brings with it a new flat world. Consultants are no longer restricted by geography. The best way to do this support is through remote connections. Currently consultants charge around (US)$ 50 per hour and 0.5c per Km.
Much can be saved by using remote access to fix and maintain a user's software. There are a number of options available for doing this remote access. There are open source products like TightVNC , DimDim and Ultra VNC as well as commercial products like Team viewer , Webex and Log Me In. Does anyone have suggestion as to what software we should use or try to standardise on?
By choosing a standard, and getting the TurboCASH community familiar with the standard we should be able to lift the level of ouur remote support.
I have started a forum topic to get your opinions.

Hi
Sorry I'm new at this. My cousin runs a small PC company and uses Team Viewer. It's very reliable and secure. I use LogMeIn for personal use but I'm also thinking of changing.
However. Team Viewer is slightly more complex to set up. The biggest issue being that by default, the settings don't allow the remote user any access. There has to be a level of contact through email for the first time, in order to get certain information from the PC you're trying to access.
LogMeIn however is simpler to set up, but like I said before, is supposed to have a lower security level. What i do is disable the LogMeIn software till such time as i'm going to use it. That's as simple as right clicking the icon next to the clock and selecting 'Switch On LogMeIn'
The only problem is if there is no one to switch the software on.
Oh and as for cost. My cousin recons that Team Viewer is cheaper. I think just double check on that.
Regards

My initial response it to choose Open source first. This leads me first to look at Tight VNC and Dim Dim
We are a massive community, 100 000 users with thousands of consultants. Last thing we want is some marketing department targeting us.
That said we need a solution that keeps support quality up.

Oh I'm sorry. You want something for free, while charging for consulting. My misunderstanding, but the fee you charge will be less. Sorry my Bad

Hello,
I agree that Open Source would be of preference, BUT, I use TeamViewer for years now, to help my mother in Germany with her Computer from my computer here in New Zealand as well as some other friends/family here in New Zealand.
It is reliable, free for personal use, or the odd single job that you want to complete and there's even an iPod Touch/iPhone app now available that works really well...
I can highly recommend TeamViewer. I haven't tried out other Programs, but that's mainly because I never ran into trouble with TeamViewer...
Regards,
Maurice

Oh, I forgot, they also offer a Linux Version now, which I will try out soon...(as soon as I got over the hand play that deprived Ghana...grrr...)
TC4 and WINE on Ubuntu works a charm...
