As in In the Milnerton Lighthouse work, the Kalkbay lighthouse is placed as the dominant vertical form on the left third of the image. Table Mountain is simplified into a clear horizontal relief across the distance, while the sea, beach, vegetation, road, and wooden fence are reduced into broad colour bands and directional marks.
The sky is treated as an abstract field rather than a literal sky. It moves from deep cobalt blue at the top into lighter blue as it approaches the mountain. This vignette helps hold the composition together and gives the mountain silhouette a luminous edge.
Colour contrast is exaggerated. The white of the lighthouse becomes warmer and brighter, the sand turns golden yellow, the vegetation becomes saturated green, and shadows are pushed toward violets and deep blues. These colour choices are expressive rather than photographic, but the place remains recognizable.
